EFY Honors

This year, we’re starting a new tradition. To honor those in our community who have made an impact in breast cancer awareness and treatment, we’re providing special recognition with the Especially for You Honors.

The 2008 Especially for You Honors is in recognition of Dr. Campbell Watts. During the 36 years of his practice, Dr. Watts emerged as a pioneer in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. He served as President of the Mercy Medical Center Medical Staff, President of the Linn County Medical Society, President of St. Luke’s Hospital Medical Staff, and President of the Iowa Clinical Surgical Society. In 1992, he was the first recipient of Mercy’s Gold Headed Cane Award for medical excellence and leadership. Following retirement, he also continued extensive research, writing and lecturing on aspects of cancer. He most enjoyed teaching, and was actively engaged in presentations and lectures. His work fully absorbed his energies and fulfilled his greatest ambitions. Dr. Watts passed away on December 12, 2007, leaving behind a legacy of advancements in the treatment of breast cancer.
