The Especially for You® Race Against Breast Cancer race is founded by Mercy Medical Center and General Mills, and is dedicated to the memory of Sandy Knight, a brave and caring woman who lost her fight against breast cancer in July 1991. Sandy was a founder of the Especially for You® After Breast Cancer Support Group at Mercy.
Breast cancer is most treatable and curable when detected in its earliest stages. Even so, breast cancer claims an estimated 40,170 lives each year. This number can be reduced when we practice early detection through breast self-examination, clinical breast exam and mammography. The money in the Especially for You® fund covers the cost of mammograms and other breast-care services for individuals who otherwise could not afford them.
To date, the Especially for You® Race Against Breast Cancer has raised more than $1.2 million in funds and has helped over 4,300 individuals.
